Insurance companies are more optimistic about the impact of the internet

In association with Sun Microsystems Hungary, GKIeNET Internet Research and Consulting Ltd. and T-Mobile Hungary conduct quarterly surveys on the availability of information and communication technology tools and on internet usage in the corporate sector. The present report outlines the findings of the latest survey pertaining to IT security solutions.

Application of IT security solutions

In the category of companies with five or more employees in Hungary, the three most widely used IT security solutions are anti-virus programs, firewalls and back-up copies. 85% of companies with internet access use one or more types of anti-virus software, and almost three-fifths use a firewall.

An increasing number of companies are taking the IT security risks seriously; the use of all three types of protection in 2004 rose significantly from 2003.

Somewhat more than half of the businesses under study make back-up copies on a regular basis. One out of three companies with 5+ workers and an internet connection operate a secure server.

Other types of IT security solutions are less prevalent at Hungarian companies: 23% use identification mechanisms, 15% use encryption, and 14% subscribe to protection services. 15% of Hungarian companies that have internet access use electronic signatures.
